Collected poems from 2000 to 2013. The collection is organized in seven groups, each corresponding to one of the seven emotions, expressed by the poems in that group hope, joy, humour, love, sadness, anger and despair. These feelings are also represented by the rainbow from the happy warm colours to the sad cool ones. In addition, the poems also comment on the most important lessons the author learned in a long and adventurous life
The Prism of my Mind eBook Francis Mont
Prism of my Mind by Francis Mont is very much true to the title. This collection consists of threads of color and meaning tied together from a singular perspective. There are very intimate personal poems of love and caring, vast visions of humanity, science and the universe and what it may or may not mean and even a couple of cat poems. These are poems of deep introspection about life, humanity and sometimes the absurdity of it all.One poem I particulary identified with was "Sleepwalker" as I had just finished re-reading Loren Eiseley's One Night's Dying both dealing with sleeplessness (Eiseley was a life-long insomniac). Similar themes are explored in both Eiseley's essay and Mont's poem.
The one that made me laugh out loud though was titled "Evolution"
Evolution
While thumbing his phone
he walks into a lamp post.
Evolution sighs.
and I ask myself, 'Evolution, or not?' What path are we on? And that in some ways might sum up this collection as a whole -- a poet looks at life and breaks it into all the colors of the rainbow for all to see.

The Prism of my Mind eBook Francis Mont Reviews
I’m not usually a huge fan of Poetry but after contacting Francis regarding his book on physics, I decided to give this a go and absolutely loved it!
A collection of life lessons, learned through personal encounters, life experiences…truly wise words. It drives me insane when people say they need to use drugs “to open their minds.” I believe that’s bull and changes your perception entirely for a temporary time... it’s not truly mind opening but a temporary mind opener, an easy way out, that gives you a false sense that you are indeed opening your mind. Opening your mind requires discipline and consistent practice, that takes almost a lifetime. I believe in enlightenment and that is the height of open mindedness. Certain monks and yogis train their whole lives to reach this mindful journey. The author seems definitely very in tune to this and present his findings, his beliefs in a very entertaining inspiring way.
Definitely 5 stars, and worth the read. There’s a lifetime of info in this book and everyone needs to adapt this way of thinking for the betterment of yourself, all living things around you-including people, and the planet as a whole because indeed we are all ONE.
Initial thoughts A wonderful collection of poems gathered over 13 years. And by a scientist, nonetheless. Who would’ve thunk?
What I loved The author studied Theoretical Physics, worked in Computer Science, and has a unique way with words. Not to mention, there is such a profound depth in the way that he perceives the world. Needless to say, I was (quite) pleasantly surprised by this anthology.
I enjoyed the writing style immensely. The open form made it easy to read and was an effective choice in delivering various life lessons and experiences.
If I had only one line to describe this book More than meets the eye.
Mont was able to communicate a great deal in very few words. There was so much unexpected insight hidden in some of these poems, particularly the humorous ones.
My favorite was titled, “Evolution”...
(SPOILER!)
While thumbing his phone
he walks into a lamp post.
Evolution sighs.
Best. Poem. Ever.
I literally LOLed and then thought, “Ain't that the truth?”
What left me wanting While the poems are divided by emotion, some of the transitions within those categories were a bit jarring. At one point, we went from “Climate Change” to “Dentist” to “Euthanasia” and while I understand these are all standalone, it still lessened the impact for me.
One other thing would be the grammatical errors throughout. Again, I realize these are free verse poems (which I’m a huge fan of!) but I felt as though certain errors were not intentional.
Overall, this was an easy, enjoyable read addressing way more than I originally anticipated.
Final thoughts I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a collection of poems written from the heart with a ton of insight.
A keen observer of human behavior, Francis Mont presents insightful comments on what we do for good or ill and what we could do for good or ill. Thus he shows a deep concern for today's social problems. Though Mont has a solid science background, his philosophical and often humorous writings show he has the heart and soul of a poet.
The Prism of My Mind is not a book to be read through and then put on a shelf. Each poem inspires me to pause, to contemplate not just the surface but the layers of meaning. The deceptively simple haiku First Snow...
Snowflakes dance in air,
turning all that's dark to light...
...whitewashing our sins.
...brings to mind early haikus, a glimpse at a natural phenomenon to hint at the complexities of human nature.
Poets take on the task of writing about something significant using exactly the right words, and chance looking silly or incompetent. Such writers must be egotistical, lovers or dumbbells. I believe that poet Mont would admit to being all three.
The intent of Francis Mont’s poems is to enable us to see and appreciate what is truly important. You wouldn’t think a scientist would have such a good way with words, but he does. Mont is able to translate his understanding of the physical world into a sensitive journey through life itself.
Buy this book and then do what I’m doing, reading a poem or two every once in a while, when I want to pause my daily life and ponder, wondering about the significance of some things and the absurdity of others.
